Iaido was spread by Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu, who revived the martial arts that declined during the Eiroku period (the end of the Muromachi era).
It is said that Hayashizaki Jinsuke’s seventh generation, Hasegawa Eishin is the founder of the Muso Jikiden Eishinryu.
The Muso Jikiden Eishinryu split into two groups after the Meiji era, and there are two major factions; the Tanimura faction (Muso Jikiden Eishinryu) and the Shimomura faction (Muso Shinden Eishinryu).
